Why Peer Support Groups?

What are some reasons for setting up a Peer Support Group in your community?

  • To bring vulnerable people living with a common difficulty together so they can share knowledge and experiences.

  • To combat loneliness, social isolation, low moods and to keep us connected and motivated.

  • To help bridge the gap between vulnerable people and health professionals and to encourage individuals to seek out community resources available within their area.

  • To sign post vulnerable people for any additional emotional, therapeutic, social, and practical assistance necessary for managing their difficulty and staying healthy.

  • To monitor the progress of the person whilst they are engaging with the peer group.

  • To raise the awareness with vulnerable people and health professionals by way awareness initiatives linked to people with hoarding related behaviour.
